An Australian senator has been stripped of his senior tasks after a recording printed he had contradicted his celebration’s coverage at the South China Sea.
Sam Dastyari stood down on Thursday from his place as deputy Senate whip for the opposition Labor celebration.
The audio confirmed him making an in depth defence of Beijing’s South China Sea coverage in a press briefing final 12 months.
Mr Dastyari had previous performed down his remarks as a spontaneous and “mumbled” reaction to a query.
