Elon Musk bids to build Chicago travel pods

Elon Musk’s infrastructure company, the Boring Company, will compete to build a brand new delivery hyperlink in Chicago.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is exploring choices for a high-speed hyperlink between O’Hare Airport and the town centre, and is thinking about an underground hyperlink.

Mr Musk tweeted that the Boring Company would put up an offer for a “high-speed loop” in Chicago.

He added that the plan would contain “electric pods” travelling in underground tunnels.

Mr Musk has in the past defined his imaginative and prescient for a tunnel community beneath Los Angeles, by which vehicles would park on a high-speed sledge and be whisked alongside underground tracks.

Elaborating on his thought for Chicago, he mentioned: “Electric pods for sure. Rails maybe, maybe not.”

The Boring Company has been setting up take a look at tunnels at the premises of SpaceX, every other of Mr Musk’s companies, in California.

Chicago’s executive hopes a delivery hyperlink will also be constructed without charge to taxpayers, and says the a success bidder may earn some huge cash from working the carrier.

“Mr Musk is a visionary business leader and what he is doing has the potential to change society in many ways,” mentioned Prof David Bailey, from Aston Business School.
