Are Dyson Vacuums Good?
Three Dyson vacuums make our rating of the Best Vacuums of 2022, which is more than any other brand. The Dyson V11 Animal Vacuum tops our list, while the Dyson V15 Detect Cordless Vacuum ties at No. 2 and the Dyson Ball Animal 2 Upright Vacuum ties at No. 4.
After James Dyson, the company’s founder, grew dissatisfied with his vacuum’s waning suction power, he sought to discover the root of the issue. He took the machine apart and noticed its bag was clogged with dust, which blocked airflow and reduced suction. After five years of trial and error, he invented the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner in 1983. The model was first sold in Japan and, with the money he earned from sales, he launched his own company, Dyson Ltd., in the United Kingdom in 1991.
Now a household name, Dyson has since expanded its product line to include fans, heaters, air purifiers, hair dryers, and hand dryers.
Dyson V11 Animal Vacuum Review
Best for:
- People who want a lightweight vacuum
- Households with pets
- Shoppers who are looking for a vacuum with powerful suction
- Those who live in an apartment
Not recommended for:
- Shoppers on a budget
- Those who live in a larger space
Ranked No. 1 in our list of Best Vacuums, the Dyson V11 Animal Vacuum is packed with handy features. This stick vacuum has auto-adjusting suction, meaning it adjusts its suction level to accommodate different surface types. It also has three cleaning modes: Eco, Medium, and Boost.
The V11’s suction is said to be 20% stronger than that of its predecessor, the V10. Professional reviewers tend to agree that the V11 is a great match for homes with pets because it easily picks up hair from floors and carpets. Since it’s a stick vacuum, its slim design allows for convenient access to hard-to-reach areas, like under sofas, where pet hair can accumulate. Additionally, the V11’s swivel head offers a wide range of motion.
Its maneuverability is a plus for apartment dwellers, as well. The V11 weighs 6.68 pounds, making it one of the lightest vacuums in our ratings. The vacuum doesn’t take up much storage space. To charge, it fits into a wall-mounted dock, where there’s also room to keep its attachments.
Like all Dyson vacuums, the V11 features a dustbin with a “point and shoot” mechanism, which ejects the contents of the vacuum’s dirt cup into your garbage bin, so you don’t have to touch the debris.
The main downside of this model is its steep price tag. It costs $600, more than most of the vacuums in our Best Vacuums list. Although it didn’t make our rankings, the Dyson V8 Absolute Vacuum Cleaner, which is similar in design, sells for $100 less than the V11 and is Dyson’s lowest-cost base model. The V11, however, has almost double the V8’s maximum battery life.
Both models use a trigger-like power button, which is common for Dyson models. This trigger must be held for the vacuum to run. This extends the battery life, but it may be annoying or uncomfortable for some users.

For cleaning furniture and tight spaces, the Dyson V11 can function as a handheld vacuum if you remove its stick and snap on one of the included attachments, particularly the mini motorized tool or the stubborn dirt brush.
For alternating between cleaning tasks, the unit’s combination tool includes both a wide nozzle and a brush. The nozzle is meant for collecting larger debris, while the brush is designed to pick up dust. To ensure a thorough cleaning, the V15’s Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head has a laser headlight to reveal hard-to-see particles of dust and debris. Thanks to this attachment’s microfiber fabric construction, the vacuum performs very well on hard surfaces like wood or tile.
Notably, the V15 is Dyson’s most powerful vacuum cleaner to date. It’s built with a Dyson Hyperdymium motor, which generates up to 230 air watts (AW) of suction.
